Electricity from the wind

The UK has the greatest potential wind power in the whole of Europe.

Wind turbines extract power from the wind, to provide electricity. Small scale wind turbines range from 100W turbines seen on boats up to around 6kW mast mounted turbines which would provide electricity for several houses.

The location of small wind turbines is crucial to ensure that they are effective, but if you have a good location a wind turbine can be a good investment. Wind turbines, like other technologies that generate electricity, provide a return from the Feed In Tariff. See the FIT Facts for more details.

An off-shore development of large wind turbines, called Navitus Bay, is being planned for development between the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Purbeck.
