Wood-fuel heating

Wood-fuelled boilers are a good replacement for oil boilers.

Wood fuelled boilers are a good choice if you do not have access to mains gas, and have room to store wood.  Domestic boilers generally burn logs or pellets, larger boilers tend to burn wood chip.

Like an oil boiler, you will have full controls and be able to heat your radiators and hot water.

Modern wood fuel boilers are much more “user-friendly” than a log fire, and burn energy more efficiently than oil and gas boilers, at around 92%. They are fully controllable and a good alternative to oil or electricity in areas that are not on the gas network.   They burn very efficiently with very little ash.

Wood-fuel is considered to be a renewable source as although it gives off carbon dioxide as you burn it, it only gives off the amount of carbon dioxide that it has absorbed in its lifetime. It is important however to burn wood that is sourced locally to minimise the amount of transportation required.

Dorset’s Woodlink officer can help put you in touch with local sources of Wood-fuel.
